Post by mykidsmom » July 6th, 2013, 6:35 pm

the more i thought about your suggestion Mary Kay the more i liked it lol...im sure weve all stories to tell.....I just cut and pasted my reply to the other thread...

I would love to start a thread about the worst advice hehehe...cos if there was a prize for getting the worst advice constantly over 15 years with a specific dr, id bloomin well win...when i went at first complaining of symptoms of CHF, i recognized the symptoms cos my father had it...the blinkin dr goes to me...hmmmmm you just moved house didnt you?? im sure its the carpets...theyre all new i splutter thro my breathing problems...hmmm oh ok thats worse then sez yer man ...its probably the chemicals...you need real hardwood.......so over the years, i got new hardwood everywhere, i got new furnace, heating, and aircleaning, i got new duvets pillows and chairs, my house looked awesome, he should have been an interior decorator...then when we ran out of house decorating options, we started with redoing the garden...my chf did get treated accidentally over the years, mostly cos i also found this really smart dr in the local walk in clinic ....god i could tell you stories lol..but to get back to the original question my issues started actually in my early teens.
I think.....Therefore I am.!!!!!

How far back should I go? One story at a time. Around the time I turned 30 (not that long ago) I had been getting lots of upper resp. infections and was given erythromiacin. I started complaining about various G.I. problems. Was sent to a specialist and went thru every disgusting G.I. test they could think of. I went to an ear nose and throat doc for an ear infection during all of this, who said the GI pain could be the erythromiacin. Doctors have their snobby hierarchy so the GI doc dismissed the suggestion because it was only an ENT who said that. When I showed up at the doctor for the result of all my tests he sat there in his zillion dollar fancy suit and told me they had lost my entire file :expld" . During all of this while i was getting a barium enema  a doctor came through with a group of interns. It was UCLA, a teaching hospital, so that happened. He said to his interns, "does that look familiar, what do you see?" and then they walked out. I always suspected he took the file. In those days I didn't stand up for myself like I do today. During all of this, I was at a clinic to get a test done that had required fasting and I was sitting in the wheelchair and told the nurse I was going to pass out. She said, '"Oh no you're not dear". :thud: Next thing I knew I was watching the ceiling lights rush past as I lay on a gurney being rushed down the hallway. The G.I. issue turned into serious gut pain. One night after about a year of this off and on It got so bad my roommate took me to ER. A side note. She said, "I'm going to stay to make sure they don't misfile you" I'll be dammed if the nurse didn't start to put a bracelet on me for the patient in the next bed who was set to have gallbladder removal. nononono Turns out I had toxic hepatitis which at the time was in the PDR as a black box warning for erythromiacin. My GI doc never did admit to his mistake and I was in the hospital for 3 days, I think mostly so he could cover his backside. I wonder how many other people were misdiagnosed? I don't think that back box warning is in the PDR anymore. That's one story.

oh god...what can i say lol....actually willie my husband made sense when he said to me a while back..you know how theres always in the class one person who just scrapes by with a pass???? well ive had a couple of drs like that lol.....i laughed when i read about your guys Million dollar suit...my guy has the "hair" when he got a mirror over his desk i just knew i was going to have more problems lol...and i actually told him if he gave his patients as much care and attention as his hair wed all be cured hehe..

the year my "BIG" event happened strange things were happening to my body....and when i went to the dr with what i thought were gallstone symptoms, and rolled up in pain...he goes...hmmmmm...nope....you musta twisted something...two days later i ended up in the ER and whos there? yeppers.......so i got sent home with the advice to stop wearing underwire bras.....anyways this back and forth went on for at least 5 weeks....until the morning i was talking to willie on the phone and passed out during the phone call......he called the paramedics from work and headed home and i ended up in a different ER.....they did all kinda tests and couldnt find a reason and eventually were about to discharge me when i started throwing up blood.....quick rush around and they then found my gallbladder was dead as a dodo bird.....and was removed immediately.....seems all the back and forth to "yer man" were valid but because the symptoms were ignored the gallbladder just gave up the ghost and i was very lucky i was in the er at the time...

roll on to my next visit to the dr....and hes fixing his hair...and giving me advice......"Helen, ive no idea how in gods name this event happened........in future when you come to see me......can you please write down a list of your symptoms so i can actually see them on paper? cos if youd done that before it would have avoided a lota stress for us both"

ahem!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i did...i wrote my next list of symptoms.....he looked at them.......and goes...ok....this is great, now i know exactly whats wrong with you........Bronchitis!!!!!!!!! (CHF heheh) but thats another story lol..
I think.....Therefore I am.!!!!!
