What does it feel like?

Post by oleblueize » February 20th, 2009, 7:43 pm

Ok I am sorry if this sounds crazy, but I have had my Boston Scientific Cognis for 2 1/2 weeks. It's a CRT-D. Today while sitting at work I felt like a sharp sting feeling in the middle of my chest. Could this have been a small shock?

No, I don't think so, Cathy. It's probably just a nerve. I don't think you will mistake a shock. I scream out, black out - just for a second - then WHAM! Somebody described it to me as like being kicked in the chest by a mule! (As I have never been kicked by a mule - I really can't say). Then it's all over. Only takes a few seconds.

Oh I realize it wasn't the big shock. But I wasn't sure what the smaller pacemaker type shocks would feel like. Mine has the 3 leads.

Hi Cathy,

I've had my ICD for about 8 months and I get the same thing sometimes. I think it's just the incision healing and the flesh/skin around the ICD still being sensitive. You'll probably feel it less as you continue to heal (I don't feel it often anymore).

I agree with the healing. The incision is healing from the inside as well as the outside and I got these little sting like feeling from time to time as well. Eventually stopped.

Yeah I think it's part of healing. You'll know when it was a shock in my opinion.
