Re: not totally OT How friendship is born

Thank you Steve for sharing your feelings with us. Not only did you gain a friend, but he did also. I'm sure your friendship made his passing a little easier. May he rest in peace.

Re: All patients...Ask for a copy of your interrogation!

Well after phone consultations I know nothing more than I did before..Everyone I've talked to has no idea why my interrogation forms say what they do but they assure me that I don't have a fidelis lead "because they were withdrawn from sale in 2007 and you didn't get your icd until 2008" They did a...

Re: For Craig (Codman59)

Leah and Craig Leah, there is a cochlear implant but that's not the operation I had. What I had is called a stapendectemy (that's probably not spelled correctly). With the stapendectemy the doctor opens the canal to the inner ear by cutting the ear drum and moving it to the side. He then (using micr...

For Craig (Codman59)

Craig, I could have sent you a private message, but then I thought my tale might help someone else as well. I am anxious to share it because of something you said in your post about our mortality, i.e. that you could now listen to the birds sing if you had your hearing aid turned up. Now my story. I...

Have We Faced Our Mortality?

A recent post caught my attention and got me to thinking. Have we faced our mortality? We are all going to die. That's a fact of life. Unpleasant perhaps, but still true. One thing about the facts of life is that we can't avoid or make them not true. We are going to die. Some of us have had to face ...

Re: Welcome Greg P.

Hi Greg When I had my first ICD installed we didn't know anything about the different diagnoses they have today. You got an ICD implanted if you had suffered sudden cardiac death. No questions. Now we have all sorts of different diagnoses. The answer is still the same. An ICD. No one has come up wit...

Re: Pointed out erlier, members increasing daily!~

I thought I'd like to share a couple of thoughts here. When we first started this group we quickly had 20 or 25 members. That was enough. We started this group with a couple of premises. First, and most importantly to me, was that this group would be forever nonprofessional. No advertising or partne...

Re: O/T-Computer Protection

I gave up on Norton many years ago. In my opinion it was junk. I've been using Trend Micro for years now and it has saved me on quite a few occasions. I've never had a virus since switching to Trend and it even cleans out the spyware every day.

Re: READ: Medtronic ADVISORY on the Concerto and Virtuoso.

I feel as if I just won the lottery. Usually if there's bad news to be had it lands on my doorstep. A previous Medtronic recall, which they said only affected around 50 people in the United States, of course included me. This time I dodged the black bean. I think I'll dance around the living room no...

Re: Niaspan

Hi Don I take Niaspan for much the same reasons you do. I take it for slightly elevated triglyceride levels. It works well. Be sure to take it with food, at least in the beginning until you get used to it. I hope it works as well for you as it does for me. You might also think about taking it at bed...

Re: magnet?

I remember the first time I was shocked. The shocks came one after another. That time was five shocks in a row. If I had a magnet I would have placed it on my chest to stop the pain. It was horrible. Had I done so I would not be talking to you today. I understand some folks thinking that they would ...

Re: magnet?

Carl I have some concerns about the magnet. I think most hospitals and many ambulance services have donut magnets to shut off the ICD if it is firing inappropriately. They also have ECG machines to look at the heart function to determine if the shocks are inappropriate. For instance, my good friend ...

Re: ICD Replacement Soon - What to Expect?

Of course you have a choice of which ICD you want. We don't have socialised medicine quite yet. If you want another Medtronic unit simply tell the doctor of your choice. Personally I wouldn't have a Boston Scientific. They are the old Guidant, sold out when they killed some folks and were buried in ...
