Re: O/T Best sellers.! Book club anyone???

My goodness, what a timely thread! I just finished my latest read. It's a little 50 pager called "Spine Surgery Guidebook" written by the good folks at Saint Luke's - Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute. A riveting read chocked full of exciting info about prepping for, checking in, prepping for surg...

On the surface I agree with Melissa. Thinking a little deeper the home team in Congress will stop you as they would consider that a late term abortion (in your case a late, late, late term abortion) and if the away team takes over shortly they will stop you as they need your help to bankrupt Medicare...

Welcome, jojobean. Any relation to L.L. Bean? Not saying your current EP isn't fantastic but Mott is one of the finest pediatric hospitals in the U.S.. If they are accessible to you, that would be my choice. Best wishes however you go. Alan mrag No political party that made it so one can't sue medic...

Re: Heart and kidney 're Diabetes

It's your lucky day again, Poppy. First - you would know if your diabetic as every blood draw you had in the hospital checks your blood glucose. If you have a patient portal with the hospital check your test results. Anymore your annual physical at your PCP should include an A1c test that gives your...

I don't suppose you happened to get the name of his/her doctors name? It could have been Dr. Al Sears, yes the same one several on here thought was the next best thing to sliced bread. It seems Dr. Al, no relation to our Dr. Al, claims to cure CHF with 8 supplements, diet and exercise. Claims beta-b...

Re: OT: I am the grumpy old woman

So what's the deal with social medicine, don't the doctors, anesthesiologists and whomever is doing procedures or invasive tests have to explain what their going to do and any side effects and bad things that could happen to you and then you have to sign an informed consent? It's a law in the US. Re...

Good to hear from you. Glad your surgery went well. Never heard of an epidural for a nephrectomy or a 40 minute nephrectomy. Can't really compare notes as I had open partials. I can agree that it hurts and will for a while. Especially if your driving/riding in a car on a bumpy road. Be sure to get a...

Re: Energy after battery replacement

That's OK. People have said I am beyond help for years. I don't have a CRT so I'm just reporting what it says on Medtronic's educational site for physicians (MedtronicAcademy). I'm glad your feeling better. You know what they say. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night nor bad heart stays...

Re: Energy after battery replacement

I'm really confused on this. According to Medtronic the CRT- ICD (CRT-D) doesn't decrease pacing at ERI, however the CRT-IPG at ERI results in the device switching to VVI pacing at 65 ppm. In this mode, patients may experience loss of cardiac resynchronization therapy and/or loss of AV synchrony. Fo...

Re: Question

What shocked me was when they told me that the drugs I would need cost about $7,200.00 a month initially and would taper off to around $2,400.00 a month depending on how well your body accepted the new heart. The kicker is that you have to prove to the committee that you would have the resources to ...

Re: Energy after battery replacement

This is an interesting topic. Lets see if I have this right, your paced, is this full time or only for bradycardia? Based off Robo's reply I assume that you have noticed a major drop in your heart rate? Surely you check your BP and HR every day. I've never heard of an ICD function slowing down with ...

Re: Question

" I received a call from Methodist here in Houston and my insurance allowed $141K for the procedure, which left me holding $2500.00 for my 20%. Does this amount really look correct." Welcome - Bad news, 20% of $141,000.00 is $28,200.00. What does $141K "allowed" mean? That sounds about right as the ...
