Re: Hello

Janis, welcome to the forum, I have family connections in Lincolnshire, lovely place. I'm glad to hear your implant went well. As for driving a car, you must notify DVLA and you are now banned from driving for six months. If you don't follow this you could get prosecuted for either failing to notify...

Re: Terrible news - forgive me for sharing...

My SCA was triggered by an MI. My understanding is that MI is still the commonest trigger. This is only a small survey but I am sure there are others: http://heart.bmj.com/content/79/4/356.short 'Conclusions Acute myocardial infarction was the underlying mechanism of SCA in most of the survivors, es...

Re: Terrible news - forgive me for sharing...

This story is getting massive coverage on BBC News 24 - 10 whole minutes just now. I must admit the story has upset me quite a bit as it is so similar to my SCA so I hope he pulls through and is in a decent shape too. There are conflicting stories about how long it was before they restarted his hear...

Re: Ivabradine front-page UK news for heart failure

I read the media reports with interest as I'm on it myself. I was put on it in hospital when my RHR was in the 80s and they wanted to bring it down. Now I'm fairly well recovered from surgery and the SCA its around 50 but noone has discussed taking me off it.

Re: Drivering restrictions

UK law sounds very similar to California. You actually have to send your license back to the authorities, after 6m you can ask for it back but they can get an opinion from your cardiologist. There are two separate punishable offences, LC40 Driving a vehicle having failed to notify a disability.........

Re: Exercise and P90X2

Before I had my ICD put in I wrote to the guy doing it showing him HRM graphs from my training, explaining what my max HR as measured in hill reps was (this is my real MHR not what any 'formula' predicts which can be way out) and insisted any limits were set above this figure. Once that was in writi...

Re: Newbie from the UK

trevor, up here I've not even heard remote monitoring mentioned although I'm sure one of the English chaps (can't remember who I'm afraid) has mentioned being on it. I just go to a cardiac technician every 6 months at the pacemaker clinic. Luckily for me the hospital is only a 10 minute walk away so...

If you like gadgets, you will LOVE your ICD! lmao4dx

Had mine the best part of a year now, not heard from it once, just a bit of pain when the sutures around the leads broke.

Re: Critical situation & question about CPR

I had some memory loss - about 36-48h worth - after being out for probably less than 5 minutes. I collapsed after the end of a race and someone spotted me lying still on the ground and got the Red Cross to attend to me. Keep your hopes up, if the CPR was administered properly it may well work out ok...

Re: How did you get through it?

manny, sorry to hear you are still struggling. I too have found it difficult, I live on my own and none of my family have even offered emotional support, in fact they haven't referred to it once since it was put in and if I mention it they change the subject. My cardiac rehab team referred me to a c...

Re: An Anniversary ?

Jim, congratulations on reaching your first anniversary. I think 'celebrating' or at least marking such events is quite common and natural, even if non-patients don't get it. You can feel well pleased with yourself and remember, just surviving an SCA makes you special!

Re: Can ICD move in you body

Yes they can move sometimes, they call it 'migration' in the trade. Under the armpit is a common place I think. It's less likely if you have it subpectorally, or they can anchor it in place with sutures.
